    1. My review: I needed to read something which is funny, positive and has no greater deeper meaning. The Goddaughter by Melodie Campbell was right to the spot! It was such an enjoyable read which was well written easy to read and I laughed my way through it! The Goddaughter is really a rapid read, and I loved every single page of it. If you need something which has snappy dialogue, is lovable and fun and entertaining to read, then you will love The Goddaughter. I did. Meet Gina who has tried to esc [...]

    2. Another wonderful book by Ms. Campbell. Once again, this author had me rolling in the aisles. Her sense of humour is outstanding. This is a quick, entertaining read about mob families and some love on the side. I read it in one happy sitting. I can't even count how many times I laughed out loud. The scene on the plane made my ribs hurt. The scene with the geraniums was so funny it was almost obscene. And the whole thing was just a pleasure to read. Ms. Campbell has a talent for saying so much in [...]

    3. For a quick, fun, and sweetly romantic read, join The Goddaughter on this Mafia relative's cross-two-countries hunt for her missing shoes. When Gina Gallo says her heels are killing her, she isn't joking. But the author usually is, and she makes us laugh throughout this novella/short novel/great little book. Marketed in the Canadian publisher Raven Books' Rapid Read line, Melodie Campbell's story of new lovers unwilling involvement in a wacky jewel heist is definitely worth savoring. This isn't [...]

    4. The Goddaughter is lighthearted suspense with a charming heroine and the kind of hero every woman wants to meet. A fast-paced and funny page-turner that takes you on a wild ride from beginning to end, leaving you satisfied and smiling when it's over. I read this book on a flight to New Orleans and I was a lot happier with my choice of entertainment than the seatmates who kept switching from one in-flight movie to another, searching for something worth watching. The Goddaughter is highly recommen [...]

    5. A part of the Rapid Reads series, this book is just that - in the best of ways. It's certainly a fast read - largely because you want to find out what happens next. The characters are concisely and wittily drawn, the dialogue is snappy, the action never lets up. A rollicking good read - fun from start to finish.

    6. 3.5 starsWhat a quick, fun read! Reminded me of the early Evanovich books. I really like books that I can read pretty quickly because I don't always have a lot of time to read. I laughed out loud a few times with this one. The characters are likable and the storyline is entertaining. Looking forward to reading the next one!

    7. Back in March I had the opportunity to hear Melodie Campbell read at a local event and was lucky enough to find that the Toronto library had one of her books in the system when I looked a couple of days later, and finally had the time to read it last month. This was everything Melodie said her books would be. It was funny, quirky, had a mix of romance and a touch of mystery with good characters and a funny plot. This one had me laughing at least ninety percent of the time that I was reading it bu [...]

    8. The Goddaughter by Melodie Campbell is a delightful and humorous story about Gina, a goddaughter to the mob. Gina is doing her best to distance herself from her life’s connections, but it’s just not working. When Gina’s cousin is unfortunately taken out of the picture, Gina has no choice but to step in and move some stolen gems. The gems are then stolen from her, and she’s got to retrieve them with the help of Pete, a non-mob romantic interest. I won’t say the fun begins there, because [...]

    9. A fun little novella featuring Gina Gallo, a certified gemologist with a degree in geology and chemistry and a family tied to the mob. She runs a jewelry store in Hamilton outside Toronto, and has been trying to keep out of the family business. She runs into Pete Malone a reporter for the Steeltown Star at a event at a local art gallery. Gina's cousin-in-lawn Tony from New York gets killed at the gallery and a wild caper ensues. Gina and Pete race from Toronto to Phoenix back to Toronto to Buffal [...]

    10. Gina Gallo is caught between a rock and a hard place. The rock – gems hidden in a custom-made pair of shoes that are stolen while Gina takes them across the border. The hard place – Pete, a reporter, is the proverbial hard man that's good to find. In the vein of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books, this is a laugh out loud, screwball comedy. Easy to read but also twisty and clever. I can't wait for the sequel.

    11. A new Canadian author to me. I really enjoyed her sense of humour. A quick read that was lots of fun. I think many of us can identify, even part of the time with Gina, who was asked "Do you ever have an ordinary day?" Full of comic twists and turns, that will make you laugh (or at least crack a smile and nod a knowing head).

    12. This very short novel (actually a novella) is about Gina Gallo, a certified gemologist. She is also related to the local mob in the Hamilton, Ontario area, but she insists that she is out of "the family business." Well, not exactly.A botched diamond delivery leads to Gina being "convinced" to smuggle them across the border, to Buffalo, in the heels of a pair of fancy shoes. The shoes get stolen, forcing Gina, and local sports writer Pete Malone, to follow the thief, a bleached blond prostitute, [...]

    13. 2 1/2 stars. The story was quick & the characters are quirky but the plot was random and confusing in places. But a nice light read.

    14. Here's the review from my blog. I read and reviewed both book (The Goddaughter and The Goddaughter's Revenge)These are action packed, full laugh-loaded books. What makes that so amazing is that they are novellas. I've no clue how Melodie Campbell manage to stuff so much in so few pages. It's like magic. You get the full enjoyment of a novel in an hour's time. I have to think she's got something to hold over Time so it caters to her needs. Seriously, these novellas have so much fun stuffed in the [...]

    15. A caper worthy of Donald Westlake, but starring a woman much more savvy than Dortmunder. What more need be said?Dangerously funny! Be warned, there are sneaky spit-laugh moments throughout. Honestly, I have not laughed out loud, loudly, in the middle of the night so often since I was in third grade and entranced by Freddy the Pig. The porkers here are Gina’s male relatives and their “business” acquaintances, as befits a woman whose extended family is THE local crime family in their part of [...]

    16. Are you looking for a read that won't take you days to get through and keeps you glued to the pages? I would suggest checking out Melodie Campbell's The Goddaughter. This is the story of Gina who was born into a mafia family. She left the 'business', but very persuasive family members brought her back on terms she laid down. Through one fateful night, her life gets tuned upside down with a murder, a drop, a theft, a lie, and a trip across the boarder. Through all that, love still finds a way to s [...]

    17. This book has serious flaws. It is several chapters too short, it is entirely too much fun to read, and it ends too soon.I used a Kindle to read this story. I miss the feel of pages in my fingers and the heft of a book in hand because I like to know how much longer I have to go. I am one of those readers who skips around, often reading the ending first, or reading chapters backwards when I get bored or impatient with a predictable plot, or literacy density. I enjoy skipping around the pages in a [...]

    18. Gina Gallo is the Goddaughter! She's also a gemologist and tries to not get involved with her "family's business". However when a job goes wrong she is called into action and drags along her friend, Pete, on what becomes the first date from hell.I love funny fiction with Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and Robert Asprin topping my all-time favorite authors. When I heard The Goddaughter was a "funny" story I couldn't resist giving this "Rapid Read" a try. The Goddaughter was laugh-out-loud-with-si [...]

    19. Short, funny, and entertaining are the three best adjectives to describe this one. This book is a Rapid Read and it clocks in at just over 100 pages so you can shove this thing in your purse and get 'er done at work on your lunch. Or extended lunch for those of you who aren't really working anyways. The fact that Gina is from a crime family and is so incredibly bad at being a criminal herself is kind of hilarious. I mean, hiding gems in shoes is kind of clever, but the fact she had them stolen i [...]

    20. Not sure how I found out about this series, but I was lucky enough to get the 3 books at the library. I would never pay $10 for something so short. The paper versions are about 135 small, double spaced pages, so I think the books are really about 65 regular pages. Took me about 30 minutes to read each one. So, keep that in mind and decide if it's worth it to you. I might consider $1.99 on kindle. A bundle for $3.99 (or less) would be more appealing.I liked the series for what it is, basically li [...]

    21. I need a new rating system. Ya know, besides the number of stars thing. I need something for a book that is pee your pants funny. Particularly from a female perspective with lines like ‘Never buy a wraparound, it won’t.’ THE GODDAUGHTER is a Cozy Caper and what is called ‘Rapid Read’ which means it is the perfect book to take along to read at the beach or on your next trip to read on the plane. And speaking of planes there is a very funny scene in the book where the pilot on a plane le [...]

    22. I loved reading this short, but sweet novel. It has a little of everything. It has suspense, mystery, romance, and comedy all rolled into one tiny book. It is about Gina, she is the god daughter in the mafia. But, she wants nothing to do with the business. She would rather work in the jewelry store and mind her own business. Unfortunately, it did not work out that way. When her cousin is shot with the gems. She is asked to transport the gems into Canada. She travels with her boyfriend, and when [...]

    23. When Gina Gallo reluctantly moves back to her hometown where all her relatives live she did so under one condition: she would not work for the “family business” where her uncle is the mob’s Godfather. It’s not easy being his Goddaughter, but Gina focuses on running her legit jewelry store until her cousin is shot by rival mobsters. This forces Gina to carry some stolen gems to Buffalo. Since Gina was already on a date, she drags him along on this road trip which turns into a dangerous ad [...]

    24. The Goddaughter is a really quick read. Coming in a 134 pages, it is perfect when you have a free afternoon and are in the mood for a comedy. This book reminded me of the early Stephanie Plum books. You know when they were still funny? It's full of amusing situations and snarky comments. I liked Gina and her "cunning plans". Despite wanting to stay out of the "family" business, they keep sucking her into it. I liked the chemistry between Pete and Gina. I just wish there was more. I didn't realiz [...]

    25. Murder, armed robbery, body snatching and smuggling - what's not to laugh about? Melodie Campbell successfully combines the noir, romance and comedy genres into a fun, light hearted novella. I honestly had my doubts, but she pulls it off skillfully. The characters are fun and funny, with enough detail to flesh them out without getting bogged down. The dialogue is smart and snappy, but never clichéd. The plot is tight and fast paced, though it loses a bit of focus at the end. The comedy is cleve [...]

    26. (1) I chose this book because I saw the third one in the series at the library. It looked like a fun, quick read. I'm mostly reading non-fiction right now and thought I'd enjoy some lighter fiction.(2) The book was, indeed, a fun, quick read, with many things that made me laugh. A few things that seems a bit too much of a reach for a laugh, but mostly it was well-humored.(3) So, I will read the second book soon. I already have that one from the library. Then I will decide about book 3 (which sti [...]

    27. Murder, armed robbery, body snatching and smuggling - what's not to laugh about? The characters are fun and funny, with enough detail to flesh them out without getting bogged down. The dialogue is smart and snappy, but never clichéd. The plot is tight and fast paced, though it loses a bit of focus at the end. The comedy is clever, sometimes subtle, sometimes laugh out loud, but never farcical. Highly entertaining and genuinely amusing.

    28. This has got to be the biggest trainwreck I have ever read. Our heroine, Gina, is supposed to be this mastermind, but her plans she comes up are so stupid and ridiculous. I couldn't find ANYTHING humerous about this book. I couldn't find anything reedeming about it either, other than the cover. Oy. That's an hour of my life I'll never get back. Not to mention the author has Gina reading one of her other books on the plane
