    2. As a passionate fan of the original manga, it was strange reading Restoration. It was like reading a fanfic written by the author, which has the promise to be fun (I don't mind alternate universes), but ultimately I just felt disappointed. It was as if Watsuki-san took advantage of the fact that most readers would already know the characters, and rushed through their introductions, and the reasons why they bonded together as a group. I feel badly for anyone picking this up as their first introdu [...]

    3. Take the original Kenshin. Then take out all the good pacing, character development, and general amusement until you're left with just some of the most annoying shonen manga tropes. That's what you've got here. I was, no surprise, deeply disappointed by this.

    4. I cannot help compare these comics to the originals. They are work is good but I have to say I am not a fan of the fight scenes they seem to be shown in a blur with smudges for the point of impact. The story seem to be rushed, also I am not really a fan of having finishing the volume with a prequel. That could just be me as I hate prequels. However it is annoying have a cliff hanger than a prequel set 5 days before the main story started. The main thing I do like about this volume is that Kenshi [...]

    5. It's incredible how much Watsuki's style has changed over the years, while still keeping the spirit of the first RuroKen volumes. The drawings as well as the humour are finally not that affected by the early 90's manga fashions, but are more personal and definitely classes better than the previous ones. The story is clearly more like a tribute to the old events than a retelling. The drawing lots for who's going to face Kenshin first, and including all the characters that we already know from the [...]

    6. Parah. Masa si Gie sampe kebawa-bawa mimpiin Nobuhiro Watsuki ngoceh panjang-lebar (sama kayak esainya di belakang yang sebenernya gak penting-penting amat tapi dijelasin dengan sangat detail) dengan penampilan ala samurai gitu. Stres sama bagian esainya nih saya ||orzBtw, yeah, satu bereeeeees!!!Btw lagi, rasanya saya mau nunda ngerjain jilid yang kedua--ya masa ngerjain naskah sampe kebawa mimpi! ini harus dihentikan!--jadi saya bakal eeer ngerjain judul lain dulu. *bilang aja bosen* *plak*

    7. Although I prefer Watsuki-sensei latest drawing style it feels kinda weird reading this arc as if it has been reboot. The original story has deeper back story especially Sano's Sekigahara story.

    8. This title, Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration is so named as it is a different take on the famous manga and anime character from Nobuhiro Watsuki. Years after the series originally ended, the author inked a deal for a live-action film about the titular character. To coincide with this film, Watsuki decided to finally pen new Kenshin stories. But he faced a quandary. Where could he place the stories in the existing manga adventures? Afterword would be not really about Kenshin so much, and as a prequel [...]

    9. Watsuki returns to the Rurouni Kenshin franchise with Restoration, the first half of a new "parallel" telling of the beginning of the original manga and a brand new prequel to the original series. Act Zero (the prequel) is in line with the early-goings of the original series in terms of tone and structure; Watsuki's art is a little more polished than Act One, but otherwise it shows Kenshin at his most jovial and introduces characters that serve their purpose here. This was quite enjoyable and a [...]

    10. Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration is the abridged RuRoKen created to capture the interest from the recent live action movie. This alternate telling contains top notch artwork. No frayed edges here, everyone has hair and costumes like a movie set. The characters are slightly different, but they are still obviously the ones readers will know.Rurouni Kenshin is the story of Kenshin Himura, former assassin (Hitokiri Battousai) of the Bakumatsu turned wandering swordsman in the Meiji Era. It's full of Jap [...]

    11. Maybe if I hadn't read RK previously, I would have enjoyed this, but every single page I had the reaction of "This isn't as good as the original" and "why is he doing this??". I suppose it's a nice abridged introduction to Kenshin but I dislike the revision of the storyline and it feels like it's lost most of its emotional impact for brevity's sake. (view spoiler)[Sanosuke's emotional trauma and sad past isn't visible and where's his giant sword! And why has he already learned his super-power up [...]

    12. I am a HUGE fan of the original story, so I was quite thrilled to experience more Kenshin. I enjoyed this probably at a four-star level simply because I love Kenshin and Saito so much, and because they remain relatively unchanged. The other characters don't fare as well in my opinion. It might be unfair making the comparison to the original since there were many more pages to be had and a much more space to pace out the story, but characters like Sanosuke, Yahiko, and Kaoru lacked a lot of depth [...]

    13. Gostei bastante!

    14. Why protect the people who you don't know? Why hide your name? Why become a legend? At first this story was very confusing, but after a while you would most likely get sucked right in.The confusing parts for me were at the start of the story the use of different terms and the straight flow-out action scenes that came.Bam!!!Just like that. Even though it was confusing it slowly or fastly clicked together just like a puzzle. This book is about an feared and ruthless assassin, who chang a rurouni warrio [...]

    15. Being a huge fan of the original Kenshin series as well as the live action movie trilogy that prompred this two volume manga reboot, I was thrilled to see a new addition to the Kenshin universe. "Restoration" is essentially an alternate version of the beginning of the series. For someone like me who is already familiar with the world and characters, this is an entertaining addition to a series I love, although it doesn't reach the charme, humour and character development of the original version. [...]

    16. Rating: 5/5 – The Saga Continues…or Begins…or runs alongside the original…This should really be a two-sentence review: New Rurouni Kenshin material exists. Now go buy it.However, you probably want to know more, and the editors around here tend to frown on two sentence reviews, so let’s dig into this first volume (of two) that serves to enhance the volumes of Rurouni Kenshin that no doubt already adorn your bookshelf. If that last sentence has you scratching your head and wondering what [...]

    17. This is a shortened, parallel version of the original manga series and oh is it BEAUTIFUL! Even on my Kindle Fire the artwork is just amazing and perfectly polished. Events that happened several volumes into the original series are altered and reworked to appear here. The battle scenes are brief but excellently drawn and the characters are still just like I remember. This is a very well done adaption and a must gave volume whether you have read the series before or are picking it up for the firs [...]

    18. Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration is a parallel retelling of the original series. It has a lot of familiar faces and the relationships have the same feel, but there are also new characters introduced. It's like a smaller scale of American comics that have about ten different universes for a superhero. I haven't read the original manga, but I was a huge fan of the anime growing up. This has all the elements I remember throughly enjoying about the anime. Humor, action, great characters. I'm glad I pick [...]

    19. Interesting, but it is horrifying to read and find things are totally different from the original story. Characters that we loved are in different positions Sanosuke and Yahiko work for Kanryu?!! What! Everything was rushed through so fast, there is zero explanation of characters and why they team together, and it seems to be a very quick retelling of the events of the original series, with some major plot changes.

    20. I read this not realizing that it was a prequel (my library had it, so I just picked it up and gave it a try), but it wasn't too tricky to follow. I might try the original manga series, although certain things bugged me in this. (For instance, I don't think there were camouflage-print kimonos in the Meiji era, or anything that resembled a screwdriver. I guess that might make it alternate history.)

    22. Good Anime and MangaLoved the series (both anime and manga,) and I when I heard that he, the author, was making an updated version, I knew I had to get it. Great so far and can't wait for the next volume.

    23. Honestly, I was nervous at first just like the live action film, but really, it was great. It certainly belongs with the rest of the series and had me giggling like a teenage fangirl just like I used to. Whether you're old or new, I'm sure you'll love this!

    24. Very nice retelling of Kenshin. Drawn by the original author although the art is slightly different, I really love this art style. Now I want to read the second volume. :)

    25. First manga I've ever finished from start to finish. I liked it. Pretty solid, reminiscent of the show. This is much more graphic than the show. He is much more battosai than Kenshin.

    26. A great foray back into a favorite from one's childhood. It was nice to be back for a light hearted adventure set in a parallel world.
