    1. I read a lot of Kindle Freebies, mostly mysteries and boy, is it taking your reading life into your hands to plunge into some of these but I have to say that I’m pretty excited about this particular one. Portrait of a Murder is the first in a series that could become a real favorite of mine. The story is set in Maine, a state I’ve never been to but would love to visit. The setting is well described and I felt the atmosphere of the ocean side from the beginning. Atmosphere is important to me. [...]

    2. As a little girl growing up in small-town Maine I remember trips to Portland were exciting. Later, I would live in vastly larger cities such as Boston, Washington DC, and London. Coming back to Portland I realize how unique it is: urban in terms of scale and diversity, yet without much of the grittiness that comes with larger metropolitan areas. In literature and film, Maine has long been associated with mystery, mayhem, and murder. Think Steven King, Jessica Fletcher, or Dark Shadows. Most often [...]

    3. My cup of tea, the beginning of a new series featuring a murder mystery involving a fine art museum and the people who operate and curate it. I particularly enjoyed the rational relationship between the museum's curator and the Portland police detective. It was unique in that they neither protagonist seemed flawed or extreme in their behavior. They were intelligent, friendly, reasonable and seemed to trust one another from the outset through the solution of the crime. I'm looking forward to read [...]

    4. A quick read, but a pleasant one. I was hoping to hear a wee bit more about the art, but my agenda is not always the author's & a fair reader respects that. I especially appreciated the way Dulcie sizes up one of the characters -- Kerry Charles could probably push the slight sarcasm in that to a somewhat more humorous approach if she wished.A pleasant mystery. I will probably put the next one on my stack of things to read. I am hopeful the book appears in a more general ebook format since I [...]

    5. Good beginning Enjoyable and well plotted. Appealing characters and a wonderful backdrop of the Maine coast, the world of art and a hint of romance.

    6. I absolutely loved this little 'who dunnit' and can't wait to read the rest of the series. It is a gentle read but quickly enough paced which kept me entertained from beginning to end. There were some obvious suspects from the beginning but I had to keep reading to the end to discover the right one!I loved the characters of Dulcie and Nick and will definitely be following their investigations.

    7. I liked this story. Dulcie is an interesting, believable character, the art world she inhabits is interesting. There is a bare hint of future romance. The mystery takes precedence and survives well up to the denouement. An enjoyable read.
